“If you cant measure it, you cant manage it”. If businesses do not measure their emissions, will not be able to implement the solutions to solve this global challenge. Thus, GHG accounting must be made mandatory for all businesses. Companies will then, be able to analyse and take decisions to reduce GHG emission. Such data can be fed at centralised monitoring system (as MRV is being implemented) to assess the impact at national level (this is mentioned in India’s INDCs also). Display of ‘Carbon footprint per product’ must be made mandatory. This will help meeting the GHG emission intensity reduction target of India (30-35% of emission intensity reduction is aimed in INDCs), create competition in market and all businesses will strive to reduce their emissions thru every possible measure.
